Check your jockey Wheels

Postby Flynnstone on Mon Nov 02, 2009 7:20 pm

This is a reminder to all float owners to check your jockey wheels for wear and tear.

On saturday I was hooking my year old float up to my truck when the springs on the locking pins failed and the jockey wheel collapsed and the float landed on my foot, breaking my big toe in two places. I knew the springs were getting loose but thought it could wait until I got the float serviced in a few weeks. WOF may pick this up in NZ, but there are no WOF here in Perth

I now have a cast on my foot and there will be no riding for me for awhile. :-( Which is a pain because it is heating up and heading into great beach weather

Do you mean that the springs failed and the locking pins failed to engage? just trying to picture what happened. My sympathy on your injury, toe injurys are really painful, I know.

Oh poor you!If I even drop a toy or such on my toe I end up just about sick with pain.(must have ultra sensitive toes) so I feel very sorry for you. Thanks for the warning I'll be checking that now!

Yep the springs failed to hold the locking pins in when I had to rock the float an inch to get it over the two ball (I was off by an inch in my backing) the pins where in but they poped out when the float moved, causeing the jockey wheel to roll out and the front of the float come crashing down (I wasn't quick enough to move my foot)
